Bloomington Gold is the longest running continuous national Corvette show and it's celebrating its 41st Anniversary in Champaign County in June 2013!
Champaign County is the new home to the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show starting this June 28-30. Held at Assembly Hall, the show will return to its roots in Central Illinois providing Corvette owners with the perfect opportunity to enjoy the open road while exploring our micro-urban oasis.
Starting in 1973, in Bloomington (50 miles northwest of Champaign), Bloomington Gold is not only the longest running national Corvette event but also is noted for innovations that have been commonly copied by many other automotive events. Corvette auctions, swap meets, Certification, SURVIVOR®, educational seminars, and special museum-type displays all began at Bloomington Gold. But what “lit the tires” for most Corvette enthusiasts were the awesome road tours when Bloomington Gold was located in Central Illinois. One of those tours is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest continual road tour of 2,223 Corvettes. That record still stands.
For its first year in Champaign County, the road tour will be the main event, leaving the State Farm Center, heading west on Windsor Rd., out to Route 10 into Monticello. Over a thousand anticipated Corvettes will drive through Champaign County into the Square in Monticello and back into Champaign, eventually ending in Downtown Champaign for a huge street festival held in conjunction with the Blues, Brews and BBQ Festival.
Before, during and after the show, we’re excited to showcase the many attractions, restaurants and shopping venues Champaign County has to offer. Click the links to the left to learn about the many things to see and do while in our community.
